View B in Cotton lawn |
I have recently purchased the Simplicity pattern 8231 and while looking for reviews on the web, found very few. I found that the pattern is a version of the Mississippi Ave dress and blouse pattern from Sew House Seven. I made both versions entirely on my vintage Singer 301a. I made view D first in a linen/rayon blend with a solid front panel. I also made view B in a cotton lawn because I wanted the drape of the lawn on the sleeved version, I didn't want the sleeves to stick out all weird by using a crisp bodied fabric. I am very happy with both versions. If I make view D again I may add side seam pockets. I cut a size 14, didn't need to make any adjustments to the pattern, well written. I also used French seams in the cotton lawn version, as it's prone to fraying as well as quite sheer. Need a liner/slip with this one, could also be a cute bathing suit cover.
